discohouse for no good reason

I’m short on words lately, and time and sleep come to think of it. New job, new company, etc. But if anything can mainline buoyancy  into my days and nights, it’s my old friend discohouse…

Roger Troutman – Do it (Xinobi Remix)

Moulinex – Leisure Suit

Donna Summer – Bad Girls (SonicC bootleg remix)

Mufasaaaaa

This Douster track has been floating around a little while, and I was just a tiny bit skeptical of it’s dancefloor appeal until we dropped it on our Hella 90’s party last weekend (the sample is 90’s based, so it’s ok yes? ). The best part is when it tricks you for 30 seconds, then you realize it’s not the original and it transcends any cheese with bananas energy. Tropical Bass with an Afro tribal twist. Love it.

Douster – King of Africa

Also, a ridiculous fan video to go with it:

Crazy Cool

Take a moment to watch this video and love this track.

That’s Ms Dynamite featured on Zinc (or DJ Zinc)’s new stuff that he’s aggressively trying to coin as a new genre “crack house”. Don’t blame him, wouldn’t you love to name a style of music too? It sounds a lot to me just like bass-heavy house with a great lady MC. Sure is a lot more funky that all that funky coming out of the UK right now though, so I’m on board.

If you like this sort of thing and you live in sf, you’re in luck because so do the fine gentlemen of the monthly party ICEE HOT.

Dubstep Princess

At only 23, this Welsh singer–songwriter is making a name for herself. Ellie Goulding has released 2 great singles and is set to release her first full length “Lights” on March 1st. Her music is delightful beat heavy synth pop with a dreamy voice perfect for cutting through electronic soundscapes. However, lets not forget how poppy goodness makes a greater remix in the right hands, and dubstep masterminds have been taking her songs to a new level. Goodies follow:

Ellie Goulding – Under The Sheets (Jeuce Rework)

Ellie Goulding – Under The Sheets (Jakwob Remix)

Ellie Goulding – Starry Eyed (Jakwob Remix)

For the majority of the her upcoming album, Goulding has worked with London producer Starsmith. Here’s a few choice remixes by the Gent:

Passion Pit – Sleepyhead (Starsmith Remix feat Ellie Goulding)

Lisa Mitchell – Coin Laundry (Starsmith Remix)

Marina And The Diamonds – I Am Not a Robot (Starsmith’ 24 Carat Remix)

Don’t Mess With Discotexas

I think I found my new favorite label. 1 part because of their great ‘about us’ bio, 3 parts because of their amazing reapeat-worthy Forbidden Cuts Vol 1 released earlier this year. God, if you like discohouse AT ALL, listen.

From pineapples to palm trees, from chainsaws to machine-guns from chaos to music. Born in a cozy family-like environment, and embodied by musicians, designers and djs, DISCOTEXAS was the natural child of a collective will to share a love for music, artwork, design, production and performance – thus bringing together projects such as MoullinexXinobiRocketsCpt. LuvlaceDouble DamageBandido$FlipGun N’ Rose. Jesus loves Discotexas. Fact.

Lover in Me (Original Mix) – Moullinex

Stranger Danger

Danger is a mysterious bro. He hails from France. He’s signed to Ekler’O'Shock Records. He’s a graphic designer and illustrator. He makes moody dramatic video gamey electro. His EP and track names are confusing as all hell.

Here’s a teaser clip for his recently released EP “09/17 2007″:

And since we all love instant gratification, here’s an unofficial video for the single “4h30″ featuring our dear Govenator:

Who We Are

We are humble music geeks. All we want is to make your ears feel good and your body move.

Kahley (Avalon Parkroy) moved to San Francisco earlier this summer from Phoenix, where she studied journalism, took photographs, and foolishly fell into a vehement affair with disco.

Matthew (Snidely Whiplash) is a Sacramento transplant (via San Luis Obispo). Upon moving to San Francisco, his new friends inspired him to dust off his decks, and get back to work. He is also a musician and aspiring audio engineer.

Cassie Tregellas founded A Crack in the Wall in 2008 with the mission of capturing and promoting local, independent, and underground art, music, and urban culture through event photography and promotion. Visit acrackinthewall.com for more info, booking and work examples.
